Sinking Vs. Trying

there is nothing worse than seeing someone you love and care for be completely engulfed in depression. it's so hard to help people like this because they can seem so happy but at the same time are struggling to not just end it all. sometimes trying to get someone out of their state is like trying to help them out of quicksand. sometimes they're too far in.

Give a couple of homeless people $20 each to repeatedly kick you in the genitals as hard as they can for a 10 minute period.

Afterwards, we will address the veracity of your initial claim.

This scene from "The Neverending Story", I think, is an interesting depiction of depression and its struggle, how it hurts the person (or, in this case, a horse) as well as those closest to them. By trying to pull Artax loose from the swamps of sadness, Atreyu, too, begins to sink. He is nearly lost, himself. That's not to say that one shouldn't do what they can to see their loved ones through their most difficult times, but be careful that you don't sink alongside them.
