I suppose short form is... there are things to knock about antidepressants, they've got their issues. If what you're referring to is the stigma for needing them though... yeah some people are dumb.

There are problems with antidepressants. They have side effects in a lot of people and ideologically I know I don't like the idea of depending on a drug for my mental health....

I actually just started celexa yesterday, because I (finally...) decided that facing those issues were worth the chance of it helping me get out of depression after years of trying to just will myself out. But I still don't like them... it's just a lesser dislike than what it attempts to treat.

(I never noticed that before... it's always "treat" depression... never "cure"....)

I do have to question prescribing practices though. >_< Because I bet for each person like me avoiding drugs like the plague, there's at least a couple trying to get drugs when a smart doctor would say "no, you just have to deal, that isn't worth trying to treat with side-effect-ridden pills... that's just normal "being human" sadness."
And, certainly there are people who really should be on these drugs, and are, and good for them. I'm just not sure what the percent is there. I felt like it was way too easy for me to get meds ("you're concerned about depression? Here ya go!" I'm not exaggerating much)...
